They aren’t all created equal, but these four take the cake.
Writing on Medium is a fully-human experience for me and I don’t plan on ever changing that by using AI for my writing here. I love writing, so why would I? But, for my online content and for my business, I’ve relied on having AI by my side to help brainstorm ideas, speed up my workflow, ensure correct grammar, and build solid SEO. After months of crafting multi-lined prompts within ChatGPT trying to get it to stop using the words “Unleash your potential”, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I started looking elsewhere for copy support. The world of AI copywriting is massive, to say the least. After months of vetting numerous free trials, I landed on these tools which I now use regularly and can’t live without.
predraft.ai
I just found this bad boy and I’m super impressed. Predraft takes a few keywords and writes an entire article in about 5 minutes. It runs in the background so you can go about your day and know it’s still generating for you. The article was well crafted, exactly what I had wanted and, although it still needs you to add a bit of tone and flair, it sounds incredibly natural.
Pros:
It’s still AI, so you’ll still need to edit and embed a human tone but it’s one of the best AI tools that I’ve seen for writing articles thus far.
Completely free up to 2 articles a month
Super fast to use
Great for SEO
Great for blogs where you are pulling in research and citations
Cons:
Only writes blogs, Amazon product reviews, and guest posts
Middle of the road on pricing. You’ll pay $19/month for a Pro Plan.

jenni.ai
Oh Jenni, I think I’m in love with you. Jenni promotes itself as a research paper-writing machine, and it is. It writes excellent copy, includes citations, and has a plagiarism checker. My favorite part about Jenni is that it writes as you go, one sentence at a time. So you get the feeling you are co-writing with the application. It gives you a line of predictive copy and you can accept it or change it, according to your needs.
Pros:
Easy to use
The copy sounds natural and with the correct tone of voice for a research article
Export directly as a Word doc or HTML.
Really affordable. There is a free plan and currently, a year subscription for $144. (Usually, I milk a free plan for all it’s worth before I upgrade but with Jenni, it was a no-brainer to pay upfront)
Cons:
The free plan is pretty limited
The UI is a little funky on an empty document page. I sometimes have a hard time getting the AI prompt modal to display but if you click around on the page, it appears.

copy.ai
Copy.ai and I have a longer love story. We first met earlier this year when I started my business. I was setting up my brand and using AI to help identify and craft copy in my brand voice so that I was consistent across all of my content. It’s a great all-around chatGPT replacer for literally anything but one of my favorite perks is the brand voice feature. This feature pulls in a snippet of your text, identifies the brand tone and voice, records it, and then allows you to apply it to any future pieces of work. You can save multiple brand voices and toggle between them super easy. It’s been a life-saver.
Pros:
Easy to use
The copy is decent, especially when using your brand voice.
Great for generating copy for any purpose
Great free plan.
The subscription plan includes ChatGPT-4
Cons:
The copy isn’t quite the caliber of jenni or predraft but for those of us using AI to help with digital marketing and content creation, the brand voice feature alone offsets this. You just have to do a little more editing.
The more expensive of the four, subscription-wise. But, for the increase in efficiency it brings to your workflow, it’s worth it. They also run regular specials (see below).

rytr.ai
Rytr offers a long list of pieces it will write for you. Anything from a storyline to a tagline to a video idea. While rytr’s copy does not lead in the human-sounding area (it’s a few steps up from basic ChatGPT), it is my absolute go-to for brainstorming ideas and starting outlines. As a content creator, it’s like my little side-kick that I get to bounce ideas off of and trial and error concepts before diving deeper into them. Rytr also gives you a lot of control over the tone and creativity of the output copy. The high creative output is pretty natural sounding.
Pros:
Easy to use
Great for Digital Marketers and Solopreneurs
Control over creativity and tone of copy
Useful for brainstorming and workshopping content ideas
Very inexpensive, even for advanced features
Available in 30+ languages
Cons:
The copy reads more like AI in ‘low creativity’ mode
UI is no frills
